RV Friendly towns from Mildura to Macedon

Plan your next motorhome adventure through some of the most scenic countryside Victoria has to offer — the route from Macedon to the riverina region of Mildura. Along the way, stop in at an RV Friendly Town and enjoy discounted rates and excellent hospitality geared to those travelling in a motorhome.

WHAT IS AN RV-FRIENDLY TOWN?

The ‘RV Friendly Town’ program is an initiative of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA), Australia’s largest RV member club RV Friendly Towns are acknowledged as being welcoming towards, and well set up for, RVers.

All official RV Friendly Towns are listed on the CMCA’s website and in the club’s monthly member magazine, The Wanderer. Towns are provided signage to indicate to RVers that they are an RV Friendly Town, and these are usually (but not always) displayed at the entrance to towns.

Here are a few suggested RV Friendly Towns to stop at on your way from Macedon to Mildura.

MACEDON TO MILDURA

From the charming hamlets of Macedon and nearby Woodend, located north of Melbourne, to the Murray Valley region of Mildura, this is a fabulous route for RVers who want to get away from it all and take in the best sights that Victoria’s NW region has to offer. Starting at the Mt Macedon Memorial Cross, to the famous Silo Trail from Rapanyup to Brim and on to the Sunraysia region of Mildura,  these towns all provide a warm welcome for motorhome travellers.

MACEDON

Macedon is home to the most significant war memorial in Victoria, after the Shrine of Remembrance, the Mt Macedon Memorial Cross. Located 70km northwest of Melbourne, it’s a leisurely drive along the Calder Freeway to Macedon and the surrounding towns of Woodend, Kyneton and Malmsbury.  Stay in Kyneton at the Mineral Springs Reserve on Burton Avenue where free permits are available for 48 hours.

ST ARNAUD

A 2.5-hour drive drive from Macedon in the Wimmera region is St Arnaud, a former gold mining town situated between the historic towns of Avoca, also home to acclaimed winery Blue Pyrenees Estate, and Donald. The town, named in honour of the commander of the French Forces in the Crimean War Jacques Leroy de St Arnaud Marshal of France, is quite famous for its many well-preserved historic buildings and a higher than an average number of pubs so it’s the perfect place to stop and refuel before hitting the Silo Trail at Rupanyup.  The St Arnaud Caravan Park is the ideal location to stop, with all facilities provided including potable water. There’s also long-term parking at Teddington Reservoir and Lake Batyo Catyo, all facilities, no pets.
